TB CONTROL PROGRAM

Tuberculosis (TB) is an air-borne disease and one of the top ten causes of death from a single infectious agent. In 2019, an estimated 10 million people fell ill with Tuberculosis worldwide. In Pakistan alone, more than 400,000 new cases of Tuberculosis and 69,000 deaths due to Tuberculosis are reported annually. Tuberculosis occurs in every part of the world but is more prevalent in overpopulated, congested, and malnourished communities especially among people who are living below the poverty line, making the Afghan refugees a community at high risk for the propagation of the disease.
FPHC has been involved in the Tuberculosis Control Program working with UNHCR in Afghan Refugee camps since 01/04/2019. (Currently in 5 Refugee Villages at Bassu Mera, Dheenda, Baghbanan, Zandai, Zangal Patai) FPHC has been carrying out awareness-raising sessions with the community to sensitize the masses regarding the gravity of this major public health issue. FPHCs staff also identifies suspected Tuberculosis cases and refers them to a nearby government health facility where they are provided with a diagnostic facility and the confirmed cases are treated.
